Delivery of the first Matthew22 Care and Support Packs – Thursday 27 August 2026

On Thursday 27 August, Trustees, Gary Hollingworth, Rachel Halford and Richard Halford, and Charity Liaison Manager, Carolyn Hollingworth, from The Matthew22 Fund delivered the first Care and Support Packs to the Teenage Cancer Trust Ward, J94, St James’s Hospital, Leeds. This was the ward where Matthew received his treatment, and, despite it being over 4 years since his passing, he is still fondly remembered.

The packs were received by Claire Harrison, Young Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist and Clare Roberts, Staff Nurse.

Claire Harrison said

As nurses, we see first-hand how clinical ward stays can be for young adults, they long for their home comforts. The Matthew22 packs will bring an immediate sense of warmth to a high stress environment. Beyond the practical essentials these packs will show our patients that they are truly seen and cared for as individuals. Providing a vital boost to their emotional well-being right when it is needed most.

We would like to thank Claire and Clare for taking time out of their busy day to accept the first delivery of packs, which we hope will be well received by the patients

We would also like to thank Hannah Bowden, Cancer Centre Fundraising Officer, and Leeds Hospital Charity for their help and support during this venture. We look forward to working with the Charity and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as we hope to expand to other young adult wards in the future.
