Congratulations to West Yorkshire Group 6 for winning the Northern Powergrid Safety Champions Award and ‘Thank You’ for choosing The Matthew22 Fund as their charity.

Donation from Northern Powergrid – September 2026

A huge ‘Thank You’ from The Matthew22 Fund to Northern Powergrid for their generous donation of £5,000 following West Yorkshire Group 6 winning the Safety Champions Award.

Northern Powergrid promotes safe working practices by awarding points to its industrial teams each month, where staff and members of the public have been kept safe. At the end of the year, the winning teams are given £10,000 to split between their chosen charities and we are delighted that the Gold winning team, West Yorkshire Group 6, led by Production Managers Neil Bond and Kevin Monks-Pearse, alongside Michael Jeffery, Logistics Manager, chose to donate their winnings to The Matthew22 Fund.

Neil, a former trustee and valued supporter of The Matthew22 Fund, said “My friendship with Gary Hollingworth (Matthew’s father and founder of the charity) started when we crossed paths playing for our local darts team – something we still do to this day. We talk and message regularly, always remembering Matthew so fondly and I still shed a tear thinking about how selfless, positive and polite he was throughout his treatment.

The £5,000 donation from Northern Powergrid was an accumulation of safe working and driving practices throughout 2025 for West Yorkshire Group 6 and it’s also a hat-trick of wins for the team in the last twelve months.

Competing against all the other teams across Northern Powergrid was no mean feat and it’s great to be recognised for positive safety behaviours via the company’s Safety Champions initiative, which enables charitable donations that make a real difference to people’s lives within our communities.”

Thank you Neil for your support over many years and ‘Congratulations’ to the team. We hope they stay safe in the future!
